Kerry Community Transport Ltd - "Your Community Bus"

Routes & Services

All our services operate semi flexible routes throughout the county and can deviate up to 2 miles to pick passengers up at their own doors.

Kerry Community Transport Ltd has contracted local providers where possible to provide these services. Our services are available to anyone who wishes to avail of them.

The cost of travelling on one of our services is €5 single or return. Free Travel Passes are accepted on all routes.

All services are coordinated centrally through the countywide call centre. Passengers can book a seat on a service by calling our lo-call number.

While the development and delivery of unresolved transport needs through scheduled routes is the core business of KCT we have also worked in partnership with agencies and groups such as KDYS, Sean Chairde Older Peoples Network, St John of Gods, Killarney Town Council and 8 Community Childcare Facilities in the coordination and delivery of their transport requirements.

There are 11 members of the board and they are drawn from Local Development Companies (4) Statutory Bodies (1), Community Representatives (5) and Disability Groups (1).

Types of Services we provide
KCT operate a variety of transport services that respond to local needs. These are defined by KCT under the following 3 headings:

              Community Routes
              Community Services
              Community Contracts

In total KCT currently provides 83 semi-flexible routes (Community Routes and Services) and 87 individual contracted service routes which in

Community Routes
Community Routes are the core business of Kerry Community Transport Ltd. KCT will give priority to sustaining and developing community routes. Community Routes are needs based services identified and requested by communities.

KCT currently operates 58 Community Routes around the County that operate a minimum of once a week.

Community Services
These services promote access to essential community services. The transport service initially develops around a specific community based service and then expanded for other local services and facilities but can also be accessed by all in the community.

KCT currently operates 47 Community Services around the County.

Community Contracts
An important aspect of KCT's work is working in collaboration with groups and organisations in the county. Community Contract play a vital role in responding to the transport needs of rural communities.

KCT cordinates and contracts operators for the community groups. In total KCT co-ordinates and operates over 90 Community Contracts where a financial contribution of 50% of the transport cost is met by the group/organisation.

The community contracts been supported by KCT include:

2 Day Care Centres
KCT coordinates and provides transport for Castleisland and Rathmore Day Care Centres.
Castleisland currently has 2 buses per day 5 days per week operating on 10 routes.
Rathmore has 1 bus 3 days per week operating on 3 routes.

8 After Schools
KCT provides transport services for 8 after school projects. The services operate 5 days per week. 80% of the services have pick up times at 2pm and 3pm. (20% have 3pm collection times only)

40 Youth Clubs
KCT works in partnership with Kerry Diocesan Youth Services in coordinating transport for up to 40 Youth Clubs around the County. 6 services per club per year are delivered under the headings of - Inter-club activity

32 Older Persons Networks & Active Retired Groups
KCT provides transport for over 30 different active retired groups for the Sliabh Luachra Active Retired Network (East Kerry), North Kerry Active Retired Network, West Kerry Active Retired Network and Sean Chairde Older Persons Network (South Kerry) to attend monthly tea dances This means that KCT is working with the above listed voluntary networks to provide transport to all tea dances in the county. 

St. John of Gods
KCT are working in partnership with the St. John of Gods and Health Services Executive on a pilot project which is currently providing a service covering 5 villages taking 14 clients with learning disabilities to 4 centres around Tralee 5 days a week
